Google turned 25 on September 27, 2023, and is celebrating its birthday with a doodle.

Everyone’s favorite search engine, Google, turned 25 and is celebrating its birthday with a doodle. “Walking down memory lane”, the company presented various doodles over the years for its birthday. The latter comes with a GIF changing “Google” to “G25gle” – marking 25 years.

“Today’s Doodle celebrates Google’s 25th anniversary. And while we here at Google look to the future, birthdays can also be a time for reflection. Let’s take a walk down memory lane to find out how we were born 25 years ago,” the company wrote in its blog.

Google added: “A lot has changed since 1998—including our logo, which appears in today’s Doodle—but the mission remains the same: to organize the world’s information and make it accessible and useful for everyone. Thank you for being with us for the last 25 years. We can’t wait to see where the future takes us together.”

History of Google

Google was founded by Ph.D. students Sergey Brin and Larry Page, who met at Stanford University’s computer science program in the late 90s. They soon learned that they shared a similar vision – to make the World Wide Web a more accessible place. Google was founded on September 4, 1998, and Google Inc. was officially born on September 27, 1998.

Although the company celebrated its birthday on September 4 for its first seven years, it moved the celebration to September 27 to coincide with the announcement of the record number of pages indexed by its search engine.

The current CEO of the global search engine is Sundar Pichai, who took over from Page on October 24, 2015. Page accepted the same position at Alphabet Inc. On December 3, 2019, Pichai also became CEO of Alphabet.

History of Google Doodle

The history of Doodle dates back to 1998, i.e. a month before Google was founded. Its first Doodle was about the long-running Burning Man event in Black Rock City, Nevada.

Message from Google CEO Sundar Pichai

Last month, Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote a blog post about the company celebrating its 25th birthday. Reflecting on the first quarter of a century, he shared ideas about the potential of artificial intelligence to do things that matter on an even larger scale.

“This month, Google celebrates our 25th birthday. It’s a great honor to reach this milestone. It’s made possible by the people who use our products and challenge us to keep innovating, the hundreds of thousands of former and current Googlers who lend their talent to build these products, and our partners who believe our mission is as big as we are. Now is a time for gratitude and reflection,” Pichai wrote.

He added: “The bottom line of innovation is that when you push the boundaries of technology, it soon goes from extraordinary to ordinary. That’s why Google has never taken its success for granted.”

Pichai’s note continued: “Search remains at the core of our mission and is our biggest moonshot, with much more to do. Of course, Google today is more than a search box. We have 15 Google products, each serving more than half a billion people and businesses, and six, each serving over 2 billion users.”
